Are you a beginning professional artist or designer working with textiles, concerned with sustainability and eager to learn more? Apply now for Expertise & Experiment, the advanced textile program at TextielLab.
TextielLab aims to become the ideal learning and working environment for makers. As part of this ambition, we want to support emerging artists and designers with an interest in textiles, through specialized additional training in the early stages of their careers. With Expertise & Experiment, the new advanced textile program at TextielLab, we invite an international group of recent graduates to develop their skills and experience on a professional level. Participants will be given access to the resources and facilities of the TextielMuseum and TextielLab and the guidance of an inspiring group of experts, or ‘masters’ through workshops, lectures and more.
In 2022 the TextielLab is launching this initiative as a pilot. We are offering a 10-week hybrid program in which you will be connected to the experts in our lab and museum and several outstanding professionals from our network, such as artist Otobong Nkanga. Together you will dive into the possibilities of textile fabrication, focusing especially on the challenge of sustainability. The program will take place both online and offline, including a two-week period in Tilburg in which you get the chance to collaboratively experiment in our lab on both an artistic and technical level, use our extensive textile collection and library, yarn supply, visit textile companies and encounter a varied group of textile professionals. This year we will select 6 applicants to be the first to take part in this new program which will run from mid-September to late November 2022.
