Yarns

Besides an impressive array of machinery, we have an even more impressive team of textile specialists. Look around to see which of our specialists can help you during your working period in the TextielLab.

Lise Brunt, material advisor

After studying at DHTA and ArtEZ, Lise Brunt started her career as a footwear designer for H&M. She soon exchanged fast fashion for a more sustainable approach at Oat shoes, where she designed fully biodegradable sneakers. She also gave workshops in custom shoe design. Lise joined the TextielLab in 2023 as a material advisor. Her ambition is to increase the lab’s use of sustainable yarns as quickly as possible. During project discussions, one of the questions she often asks is: can we make this more sustainable? She is more than happy to look for alternatives that are better for the planet: from local wool to recycled polyester or yarns made with the help of microbes. To ensure an attractive palette, Lise works with companies such as Wolkat and Spinning Jenny and visits trade fairs like Pitti Filati and TechTextil. It was at the latter that she found the yarn for the flame-retardant warp made of recycled polyester that will be tested on the looms this summer.

Annette Jeronimus, yarn buyer
Annette Jeronimus brings extensive material and purchasing experience to the TextielLab: she worked at Van Puijenbroek Textiel for 35 years – first as a product specialist in fabric development and later as a product specialist for protective clothing. As the lab’s yarn buyer, her purchasing decisions are slightly different from the norm. Instead of ordering per thousand kilos, as is common in the industry, she identifies suppliers who can and want to supply a diverse and sustainable range of yarns in quantities of five, ten or 20 kilos. Annette loves the varied colours and properties of yarn. She feels the same way about the people in and around the lab, who – regardless of their differences – are all passionate about their profession. She sees the combination of the artists’ craftsmanship and creativity as the lab’s strength. As a textile professional, she is happy to contribute to this.
