<html><body>Man &lt;3 Machine - 25 Years of TextielLab brings together eleven impressive artworks realised at the TextielLab over the past decades. The exhibition&rsquo;s spatial design is by Studio Parade and is further enriched by video portraits of weaving specialists, artists and designers. These offer a unique insight into the making process and the intensive behind-the-scenes collaboration.
At the heart of the exhibition is computer-controlled weaving&mdash;the technique that earned the TextielLab its international reputation. Thanks to speed and exceptional precision, complex structures can be built up layer by layer. This gives rise to new possibilities in form, colour and material, in which digital technology and human intuition are inextricably intertwined.</body></html>

Weaving without borders

<html><body>In 2002, Peter Struycken was the first artist to be invited to realise a work on the new computer-controlled weaving machine, in collaboration with TextielLab weaving specialist Stef Miero. Struycken was already internationally renowned for his systematic approach to colour, in which carefully composed colour palettes form the point of departure for his work. For this wall hanging, however, he faced a new challenge: this time, the colour palette depended on the blending of different yarns. To arrive at a harmonious combination of colours, Miero experimented with a variety of weave structures, while the advanced weaving machine&mdash;thanks to its speed and precision&mdash;made an almost infinite range of structures possible. The result is a colour palette that emerges directly from the artist&rsquo;s intuitive choices, in which technology and creativity come together seamlessly.</body></html>

Co-creation

<html><body>The same synergy between technology and creativity is expressed in the groundbreaking 3D weaving techniques presented in Man &lt;3 Machine - 25 Years of TextielLab. Designers such as Aleksandra Gaca, Fransje Gimbr&egrave;re and Jan Taminiau deliberately create space within the woven structure, developing textiles that are no longer flat but acquire volume, scale and form. This sculptural approach opens the door to new applications in product design, fashion and material innovation.</body></html>

<html><body>At the same time, a new generation of makers is given a voice here. Young talents&mdash;unburdened by established rules or assumed limitations&mdash;approach the machines with open curiosity. This attitude works both ways: they inspire experienced specialists to re-examine familiar techniques. What takes shape on the weaving machines in Tilburg subsequently travels the world&mdash;from presentations in Shanghai to museums in New York&mdash;demonstrating how local craftsmanship can grow into Art with a capital A, with international impact.</body></html>

<html><body>Mens &lt;3 Machine &ndash; 25 jaar TextielLab brengt elf indrukwekkende kunstwerken samen die in de afgelopen decennia in het TextielLab zijn gerealiseerd. De tentoonstelling is ruimtelijk vormgegeven door Studio Parade en wordt verdiept met videoportretten van weefspecialisten, kunstenaars en ontwerpers. Zij geven een uniek inkijkje in het maakproces en de intensieve samenwerking achter de schermen.
Centraal staat het computergestuurde weven &ndash; de techniek waarmee het TextielLab internationale faam verwierf. Dankzij snelheid en uiterste precisie kunnen complexe structuren laag voor laag worden opgebouwd. Zo ontstaan nieuwe mogelijkheden voor vorm, kleur en materiaal, waarin digitale technologie en menselijke intu&iuml;tie onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden zijn.

Weven zonder grenzen

<html><body>In 2002 werd Peter Struycken als eerste kunstenaar uitgenodigd om een werk te realiseren op de nieuwe, computergestuurde weefmachine, in samenwerking met TextielLab-weefspecialist Stef Miero. Struycken was toen al internationaal bekend om zijn systematische benadering van kleur, waarbij zorgvuldig samengestelde kleurpaletten het uitgangspunt vormen van zijn werk. Voor dit wandkleed stond hij echter voor een nieuwe uitdaging: het kleurenpalet was ditmaal afhankelijk van het mengen van verschillende garens. Om tot een harmonieuze kleurencombinatie te komen, experimenteerde Miero met verschillende weefbindingen, terwijl de geavanceerde weefmachine door haar snelheid en precisie een vrijwel oneindige variatie aan structuren mogelijk maakte. Het resultaat is een kleurpalet dat direct voortkomt uit de intu&iuml;tieve keuzes van de kunstenaar, waarin techniek en creativiteit naadloos samenkomen.</body></html>

Co-creatie

<html><body>Diezelfde synergie tussen techniek en creativiteit komt tot uiting in de baanbrekende 3D-weeftechnieken die te zien zijn in Mens &lt;3 Machine &ndash; 25 jaar TextielLab. Ontwerpers als Aleksandra Gaca, Fransje Gimbr&eacute;re en Jan Taminiau cre&euml;ren bewust ruimte binnen het weefsel en ontwikkelen textiel dat niet langer plat is, maar volume, schaal en vorm krijgt. Deze sculpturale benadering opent de deur naar nieuwe toepassingen binnen productdesign, mode en materiaalinnovatie.</body></html>

<html><body>Tegelijkertijd krijgt ook een nieuwe generatie makers hier een stem. Jong talent, dat nog niet vertrekt vanuit regels of onmogelijkheden, benadert de machines met open nieuwsgierigheid. Die houding werkt wederkerig: zij inspireren ervaren specialisten om vertrouwde technieken opnieuw te bevragen. Wat in Tilburg op de weefmachine ontstaat, vindt vervolgens zijn weg de wereld over &ndash; van presentaties in Shanghai tot musea in New York &ndash; en laat zien hoe lokaal vakmanschap kan uitgroeien tot Kunst met een hoofdletter K, met internationale impact.&nbsp; &nbsp;</body></html>
