Introduction.

Lisa Konno is an Amsterdam-based artist and designer. Since 2015, she has been developing her practice, beginning with collections made from textile waste that made a statement about unethical practices in the fashion industry. In 2018, she won a Dutch Design Award.

Konno’s work explores the interplay between fashion and storytelling. Her short film NOBU — a stylised portrait of her Japanese father — brings together fashion and film to express personal narratives that also touch on universal themes. Her multidisciplinary practice spans documentary, fashion, ceramics, performance and more, always grounded in a deep love for clothing and textiles, with the human being at its centre.

Recurring themes in her work include cultural identity, sustainability and activism. Her work has been presented on international platforms such as IFFR, Clermont-Ferrand, Amsterdam Fashion Week, Tokyo Design Week and Dutch Design Week, and is included in the permanent collections of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and the Centraal Museum Utrecht. She has also worked with renowned institutions and organisations such as the Rijksmuseum, VPRO, De Bijenkorf and Wereldmuseum Amsterdam.
