Introduction.
Ursula Wagner is a German textile designer, artist and researcher whose practice lies at the intersection of material, technology and form. Her work stems from a deep interest in the sculptural and spatial possibilities of textiles, approaching woven structures not merely as surfaces, but as three-dimensional, architectural systems.
Specialising in industrial weaving, Wagner develops projects that bring textiles into dialogue with other disciplines. She designs dynamic, spatial woven structures and site-specific installations for both public and private settings. In her practice, she continually explores the boundaries of digital design tools and textile production techniques. Alongside her work with woven structures, paper manipulation forms an important part of her research. Inspired by traditional Japanese washi techniques, she creates entirely handmade paper reliefs and inlays.
Wagner studied Textile and Surface Design at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin and Hiroshima City University in Japan, where she completed her Diplom in 2013. She has taught at various institutions, including her former academy in Berlin, the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and Shenzhen Polytechnic in China.
